Causes of downfall of life


The Buddha, the Supreme Enlighten One showed us the causes of downfall in Parabhawa Sutta. This sermon was discoursed when a deity asked Buddha about the causes of downfall of a human.

Let's see what are those causes of downfall. If you have any, immediately give up them before you decline. If don't have any, be happy, you are free from the causes of downfall.

The causes of downfall are;


  1. A person who hate Dhamma declines.
  2. Person who likes and associate bad people and listen to their advises declines.
  3. Person fond of sleep, lazy, fond of speaking nonsense, fond of company and hot tempered declines.
  4. Person who doesn't look after his/ her old father and mother, when he/ she can, declines.
  5. Person who deceive a monk, bhrahmin, ascetic or a poor person, declines.
  6. Person who enjoys his/ her own money, food and other wealth alone (stingy), declines.
  7. Person who condemn his/ her own poor kinsmen by being proud of his/ her birth, wealth or cast, declines.
  8. A person who is a rake, drunkard, gambler - this is a cause for his downfall.
  9. A person who doesn't satisfy with his own wife and looks for prostitutes or wives of others, declines.
  10. A person who is old, but married a young girl, won't sleep thinking his wife will go for young men, declines.
  11. Giving authority for a woman or a man who is not righteous and corrupted is a cause of downfall.
  12. A person who have a noble birth (birth in good cast) and with lack of wealth but if he have big ambitions to become a ruler, will declines.
Those are the causes of downfall which a person who follow the path of truth and insight should be avoided. May you all learn these causes of downfall and be away from them and gain a successful and a joyful life. May all beings be happy!
